FAQ

A: Starfall Island is an adoptables game where you can tame, breed and show off a variety of unique, colorful pets.

Q: What can I do with a Starfall pet?
A: Starfall is a game in which deviants can collect and breed fantasy animals. Once you adopt a pet, you can name it and begin planning it's pedigree! Breeding pets to create new offspring, markings and even new species is one of the most important elements of Starfall! There will also be various games and events which will be open to pet owners only, so by adopting a pet, you unlock even more fun!

Q: How can I get a pet?
A: There are several ways that you can adopt your very own Starfall pet! The first is to hire us to tame one for you. You can find more information on that here. Pets and other items can also be won from events or even wished for during Falling Star events. You can find more info on Falling Star and other events at the Events Page. Finally, new pets can be born by breeding two tamed Starfall pets together. You can read more about breeding pets here.

Q: Is there a limit to how many free things I can claim?
A: In order to give everyone a chance at a freebie, you can only claim one freebie per day. This includes both pets and items. You will be free to claim another freebie 24 hours after your comment for your last successful claim. To find out when your cool down period is up, go to the comment where you last claimed a pet or item and hover over the time stamp. Compare that to the current time on Starfall Island/deviantART, if it is less than 24 hours later, you will need to wait a little longer or else your claim will be denied.

Q: What are "starter pets" pets, and can I get a non-starter pet?
A: Starter pets are pets that are found wild on Starfall Island. There may be more wild pets to be found, but as of now, the starter pets are Cactibulb, Belldeer and Tougi. Through my research of the genetics of these pets, I suspect that they may be genetically comparable. In other words: These different species should be able to breed and make new kinds of pets! How amazing is that?! I need to research further before I am able to confirm these findings, but if they are able to breed for new kinds of pets, these new species will be called Fusion Pets.

Q: How do you decide what coors, markings, gender, etc a pet will have?
A: The characteristics of Starfall pets are determined by chance. Random number generators determine how many markings, which markings, what time of day and even what colors a tamed pets will have. Wishes directly impact these numbers and can make your desired outcome much more likely, which is why wishing is so important! 

Q: Is there a difference between Tamed and Claimed pets?
A: When you tame a pet through the commissions widget on the StarfallIslanders page, you get a good bit more control over what your tamed pet will be. You can pick the time of day, and you get to make a wish! Pets which are tamed through the commissions widget also tend to have more markings than claimed pets, and there are some special events on the island which will only impact tamed pets.

Q: Why don't you offer commissions for custom designed pets? Other adoptables agencies do that!
A: Wow! Those other agencies must have some very advanced breeding facilities! Right now, Starfall is in the very early stages of researching the pets on the island, so while we want everyone to find the pet of their dreams, we cannot yet guarantee how a newly tamed pet will look.

Q: Are the markings listed in the Species and Markings entry the only ones available?
A: No! The markings recorded in my notes are the most common, but there appears to be dozens of different markings. For example, I have recorded several different patterns of Tougi feathers, different kinds of markings on those long Belldeer legs, as well as different markings on Cactibulb spikes. Masks, different colored feet, wool or beak patterns have also been observed. Also, my research of their genetic code seems to suggest some hidden or Breeding Markings...

Q: What are these "Breeding Marking"?
A: I'm so glad you asked! It seems that some markings are more compatible than others, so when breeding two pets of the same species, these pets have a chance of producing a special marking which cannot be found in the wild! How exciting is that? I hope that my theories about these hidden markings are correct, but only the birth of a pet with a Breeding Marking will actually confirm it!

Q: What are Tokens?
A: Tokens are coins given to adopters to show that they are an active, helpful member of the group. These can be given as prizes in art competitions, for submitting an especially good guide or research article or even for breeding an especially rare pet! Tokens can be exchanged in order to access elite items, pets or events on the Island, so start collecting! You never know what you can trade a handful of tokens for.

Q: How can I get a Token?
A: Tokens are given out to adopters who contribute fan art or research for Starfall Island. Tokens will be awarded as art and journal entries are reviewed and accepted into the Favorites Folder of the StarfallIsland group. Adopters can only receive one token per week. We will fact check all journal entries and articles submitted, only those with accurate research will receive a token! Entries which mention Starfall in passing and do not present any information theories will not qualify to receive a token. Artwork which is properly submitted to the correct group folder will generally qualify for a token. We will not deny a fanart a token based on artistic ability, but we would rather see art which has effort put into it, so we will not reward submissions which are clearly rushed and submitted just to get a token. While similarities will of course happen, any work which uses non-stock images or reproduces the work of another artist without permission will not received a token.

Q: What is a Pedigree and how can I get one for my pet?
A: A Pedigree is like a family tree for adoptables. All tamed pets start off with no pedigree, as nothing is known about their ancestors. Once you breed your pet, their pedigree will be populated by their offspring. Pets which have been born in the care of our Starfall staff will have their parents listed in their pedigree, and any future offspring will be listed in their pedigree when they are born. One of your goals as an adopter is to breed beautiful offspring, build a strong pedigree for your pets and help us further our research with this information!

Q: How can I adopt a pet or get an item if I don't have any points?
A: There are lots of ways to get items here on Starfall Island, the best way is to just pay attention and be active! Shyanne and I are suckers for give always, we always try to snag a few berries from Benebatch's shop and give them to nice people. Please don't tell him we do that. You should also keep an eye out for shooting Falling Star events, where you can wish for items and even pets! You can also ask others to trade with you during the Swap Meet. You can offer things like fan art or pets from other adoptable agencies in exchange for Starfall pets or items, if the other party is willing! Please remember to be respectful and nice when asking, and if someone says no, please don't nag them. It's rude.

Q: Why did you name your Tougi Felony?
A: Shyanne picked the name, she says it just fits!

Q: Can I rename my pet?

A: Yes, but each pet can only be renamed once per owner, so make sure you pick a name you really like! If you would like to change the name of your pet, please comment on the pet's page itself, do not note us or comment the group page. If you have not changed the name of your pet before, we will be happy to update the records for you. 

Q: Can I change the registration number on my pet?
A: No, these numbers are part of our research and help us keep track of all the pets we have tamed. Registration numbers are assigned to a pet as soon as it is tamed or born and cannot be changed.

Q: Can I change the gender of my pet?

A: Our research facility is just starting out and we are not yet familiar enough with these animals to perform any sex change operations. Sorry!

Q: Can I use my pet for things like RP?
A: Yes! You are more than welcome to further the adventures of your pets. This includes RP'ing as with/as your pet, writing stories about them and drawing fan art of Starfall Island pets. We encourage it! 

Q: Can I give a Starfall pet to a friend?
A: Yes, if you want to give a pet you have already adopted to a friend, please use the Swap Meet to transfer ownership.

If you want to have a new pet tamed for a friend, please list your friend's deviantART account as the owner when you fill out the taming form and the tamed pet will be given to them.

If you want to give the offspring of a pair you are breeding to a friend, please specify your friend's deviantART account as the owner when you fill out the breeding form and the offspring will be given to them.

Q: Can I give a Starfall pet to a friend who does not have a deviantART account?

A: No. Because we are hosted on deviantART, one of the requirements to adopting a Starfall pet is to have a deviantART account. We simply do not have a good way to keep track of and communicate with adopters who do not have a deviantART account.

Q: Will you affiliate with my group?

A: I'm so flattered that you asked!! But, because we would rather focus on creating events and pets, rather than reviewing other groups and updating lists, we are not looking to affiliate with anyone at this time. If we decide to open an affiliates page, we will update it in the news and you can request at that time.

Q: Can I upload the official Starfall artwork of my pet to my gallery?
A: You are welcome to repost a Starfall pet you have adopted to your scraps gallery, provided you link back to StarfallIsland in your description and do not attempt to pass off the artwork as your own. But, we strongly  encourage you to direct people to the official artwork instead of reposting, because comments and page views on your repost will not count towards your official Starfall tally. The more comments and page views you get on the official upload of your pet, the more popularity and reputation both you and your pet will have! 

Q: Can I upload official Starfall artwork to other websites, such as Facebook, Tumblr, etc?
A: Yes, provided you credit the artwork, link back to StarfallIsland, and do not attempt to pass off the artwork as your own. 

Q: How did you get your page to look like that?
A: Our amazing journal and shop pages, as well as our background graphics were designed by Ikue! He really does beautiful work, if you would like him to create something for you, you can commission him here.
Our gallery CSS was created by nightmareccs, we simply edited a few things.

Q: How do you make your pets?

A: All pets and items are designed, drawn and colored by our StarFall Island crew. Our pets and items were drawn by kozispoon, who does take commissions! Special thanks to witherlings for the amazing Texture Brushes, which we use for some detail work.
